Services & Fees
Wau Adventures are here to assist in making your visit to Wau as enjoyable and simple as possible. We can provide details and advice for do-it-yourself travellers, or arrange every aspect of your journey. Here is an outline of a few of our basic services:
Transport
To get between Lae (or Nadzab airport) and Wau, we have a Land Cruiser Wagon and Utility for comfortable air-conditioned transfers. These are provided with our own drivers only, not for hire. We can arrange to hire trucks or buses as required.
Local transfers within Wau are free for guests of ‘Waramuli’ Guest House, and at reasonable rates for other visitors. Local area tours to most destinations can be arranged, with appropriate guides upon request.
Accommodation
Wau Adventures operates the only guest house available in town, set inside the privately owned ‘Waramuli’ residential compound. Only a few minutes drive from town, it has 24 hr security, local TV, full amenities, tea and coffee facilities, and open grounds and gardens. No cooking equipment is available, but meals may be provided upon request.
The guest house has three rooms, accommodating from two to six people, up to twelve in all. With a communal lounge and balcony, it is a comfortable and relaxing place to stay.
Food
For those staying at Waramuli Guest House, delicious meals may be arranged with the accommodation package.
Through ‘Donna’s Store’ and ‘Wau Holsel’ in town, Wau Adventures can provide all local food requirements for trekking and daily adventures. Simple ‘trekker’, ‘porter’ and ‘group’ ration packs are available, or your requirements can be made to order.
All Wau Adventures organised ‘activities’ and weekend ‘packages’ include all meals, from guest house dining to picnics, and snacks.
Equipment
Basic camping equipment including day packs, water bladders, walking poles, life vests, safety equipment, etc are available for hire. This may be included in package costs as required, subject to the nature of your activities.
Due to our location, only a limited range of basic equipment is available directly in Wau. Items such as bush knives, tarpaulins, rope, etc are always available, and most other items can be acquired prior to your arrival if orders are placed with sufficient prior notice.
Guides and Porters
The Tourism Promotion Authority and Morobe Tourism Bureau have assisted greatly in recent years by selecting and training a large number of local men and women in both general tourism, and specific trekking skills. They are expected to maintain a high level of professionalism in areas such as first-aid, and customer care, and for trekking, are accredited with the Black Cat Trail Association.
Most importantly, all guides are from within the area of the activity, to benefit from their excellent local knowledge and experience. These local villagers know their area, understand tourist needs, and are closely supported by trained Wau Adventures staff.
Information and General Assistance
Wau Adventures prides itself on providing accurate information and practical advice for all our intending visitors. PNG is often a difficult country to plan for or move around in, so we endeavour to ease the burden where possible. Feel free to contact us any time to discuss your needs, by selecting ‘Contact Us’ above.
Costs & Fees
For the major treks, Wau Adventures specialises in local logistics and support services, and recommend larger groups use the services of a specialist tour operator. We cater directly to individuals and smaller groups who wish to undertake the treks at their own leisure, by acting as local liaison to assist in making the necessary arrangements.
We personally manage and operate all local activities and weekend packages for groups up to 6 or 12 people depending on the adventures involved. Larger groups may be assisted, requiring individual and thorough planning.
Services supplied directly by Wau Adventures are subject to 10% GST (vehicle transfers, accommodation, etc), some are collected on behalf, of and forwarded to, the Track Association (booking and track fees), some are paid direct to the local members (guides, porters), and yet others are open to negotiation on the track (bush accommodation, artefacts). All this will be explained clearly in your quote.
